Harnett County GOP Executive Committee members residing in House District 53 this evening selected Howard Penny to replace retiring Rep. David Lewis on the ballot this November.

Harnett County GOP Executive Committee members residing in House District 53 this evening selected Howard Penny to replace retiring Rep. David Lewis on the ballot this November.

A lifelong native of Harnett County, Penny graduated from Coats High School and has worked in agri-business for over fifty years, including as a farmer and an equipment salesman with Agco Corporation.

Penny currently serves on the Harnett County Board of Commissioners and previously served on the Harnett County Board of Education.

Howard Penny said, “Rep. David Lewis has left big shoes to fill, and I am thankful for his eighteen years of exceptional service to our community. I’m grateful for the opportunity to work with Rep. John Sauls, Rep. Larry Strickland, and Sen. Jim Burgin on behalf of the people of Harnett County.”

Republican House Caucus Director Stephen Wiley said, “Howard Penny will bring a wealth of experience and intimate knowledge of Harnett County to the role of State Representative. His familiarity with Harnett County and his work in agriculture as well as on various boards have equipped him for the legislature, and I know he will hit the ground running in January after being sworn in.”
